Mr. Larry Collett, the founder and director of operations for netGALAXY Studios, has been involved with Chamber of Commerce's since 1999. Ever since he started netGALAXY Studios, Mr. Collett knew that involvement with the Chamber was important and began building Chamber websites for multiple Chambers.
It wasn't until Mr. Collett relocated to Charleston, South Carolina where he began being more involved with the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, including the Ambassador's, various committees, and the Total Resource Campaign. He started as a volunteer, but quickly moved to team captain and then Vice-Chair where he has served for over four years and has no plans on quiting.
The Total Resource Campaign is extremely important to the community and a vital part of the programs and initiatives of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Collett's teams have generated over $150,000 - $200,000 each year and, even in a challenged economy, it continues to climb each year.
An IDEA was born
The Auction for a Purpose concept began in a brainstorming session during a 2008 TRC meeting where the decision of whether to raise the goal for the next campaign was presented to the leadership; of course they raised the goal, but the idea of "creative revenue opportunities" starting bouncing around in Mr. Collett's head and thus the Auction for a Purpose application was born. After month's of development, the Auction for a Purpose application launched in the Spring of 2009.
The idea is still the same..........generate cash for the Chamber, but allow businesses that are lowering their operating budget the ability to still participate by donating products and services that will generate cash for the Chamber. Volunteers commit endless hours for these campaigns and this is another opportunity to achieve their goals with the same incentive results. |
